What do I need to know about COVID-19?
As health professionals who are keeping up to date with the latest news and recommendations, we know that there is A LOT of information around at the moment in regard to coronavirus and with the information changing all the time it can be hard to determine what information is and isn’t helpful. We have put together links for sources of information that we believe are useful for everyone to help the fight against COVID-19.
We all need to contribute and collectively we can make a difference, but we need the right;
- Up to date information
- Tools and resources
- and knowledge!
As you may or may not be aware, the virus is transmitted through water droplets and does not pass through the skin.
So how does it enter our system?
Through mucous membranes – the eyes, nose and mouth.
Example of how CODIV-19 could be transmitted:
An infected individual coughs or sneezes into their hand then touches a surface like a doorknob. If you touch the same surface then touch your mouth, nose or eyes, the virus may enter your system. This means that the virus is not air-born. Therefore, face masks used for general precautions are not necessary to slow/stop the spread.
Keeping an approximately 1.5m distance away from people is a measure based on the average distance travelled by water droplets from a cough being 1m. It is not for the purpose of “breathing the same air” as someone infected.
Avoiding physical contact with people will also reduce the likelihood of picking up the virus on your hand and inadvertently touching your face.
You can read about our clinic’s hygiene practices implemented to help keep you safe and reduce the spread.
How to practice good hand washing hygiene
It’s simply making sure you wash your hands thoroughly and effectively on a regular basis (yes, there is a right and wrong way to wash your hands!):
Valuable resources for the latest COVID-19 recommendations
Before you get lost in the world of Google, a great place to start with up-to-date and correct information is the Government websites. Government sites are the best place to obtain direct knowledge as opposed to the general media…or your neighbour Barry (sorry Barry).
