What is Scar Tissue Release Therapy?

Scar tissue release therapy

A scar, whether from a childhood injury or a major medical surgery, can have a physical and emotion impact. Scar Tissue Release Therapy can help you overcome the discomfort and self esteem issues associated with scars.

MSTR® McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release is a pain-free, natural method of helping you with your scars. Not only can visible scars diminish your self confidence, scar tissue can spread internally restricting movement or function and causing discomfort. Almost everyone has a scar; whether that’s a few minor scars on the knees from falling from a bike as a child, a scar from shoulder surgery or a c-section scar after the birth of your child. Thankfully there is a gentle therapy that can help release the restrictive scar tissue, reducing the visible appearance of your scar and helping you to regain the confidence you have lost.

Exercise physiologist, Sarah Healy, is now offer Scar Tissue Release therapy at Whole Body Health & Wellness. Here, she explains what’s involved and the types of scars it can treat to help you determine if it is the right solution for you.

What is Scar Tissue Release Therapy?

Scar Tissue Release Therapy (also referred to as MSTR®) uses gentle finger-tip pressure applied to the area to help free the restrictions in the scar. No force is involved, and the work is always applied within your tolerance range. Scars, not matter how big or small, may have a huge influence on your presenting problems.

Physically, they can cause:

  •     Restrictions in the fascia
  •     Reduction in blood and lymph flow
  •     Weaken muscular strength
  •     Reduce the flow of energy
  •     Inhibit joint movement

Scarring on the skin can also have a significant, lifelong physiological impact. They may feel and look unpleasant and may even upset you emotionally due to the traumatic events that created them.

What type of scars can MSTR® treat?

MSTR® can be used for a variety of scars both old and new. Most commonly the scar tissue release therapy is used for:

  •         Cesarean section and Hysterectomy
  •         Spinal and joint replacement surgery
  •         Trauma scars such as those typically found on the knee
  •         Head wound scars
  •         Mastectomy
  •         Amputations
  •         Underlying scar tissue from laparoscopic surgery

What symptoms can be improved with Scar Tissue Release Therapy?

Scar tissue is a result of your body’s natural healing process to injury or trauma. This process occurs under the surface of the skin as well as externally on the skin’s surface to help the wound heal. Unfortunately, this can leave a visible scar and if the scar tissue isn’t broken down by the body completely, the adhesion can continue to spread under the skin’s surface. This can cause pulling, restriction or raised tissue in the wound area. Besides the visible presence of the scar, your body’s range of motion can be reduced, the muscles may need to work harder and the nerves can be negatively effected.

Symptoms related to scarring can be varied and persist long term without treatment. Scar Tissue Release Therapy may help to improve:

  •         Numbness or desensitisation in or around the area of the scar
  •         Pain
  •         Feeling of disconnection between lower and upper body  (especially with c-section scars)
  •         Hypersensitivity
  •         Burning
  •         Itching
  •         Physical appearance such as the texture and colouration

Why treatment of your scars is vital

According to research, if a scar is left untreated it may make other therapeutic interventions less effective or not last as long. Even though your scar may be many years old, this may be the release your body has been searching for. Often just one or two Scar Tissue Release sessions can produce dramatic changes that you can see and feel!
